Her mother was a dancer who spent 1924-26 performing at the Moulin Rouge in Paris and her father was a physician who helped start the Upper Manhattan Medical Group in Harlem  .. Joan is a singer who burns quietly with inner intensity and has a natural sense of swing. She brings an energy to her Jazz that would appeal to new listeners and long time jazz fans .. California-based Jazz Trumpeter Carl Saunders

 Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with California-based Jazz Trumpeter Carl Saunders .. We caught up with him on April 30, 2020 to talk about his latest 2020 CD Jazz Trumpet during this new COVID-19  world .. Jazz listeners living in the Los Angeles area and musicians worldwide have long known that Carl is one of the great trumpet players around today. Originally from Indianapolis – his uncle is trumpeter-bandleader Bobby Sherwood and he started playing trumpet in the seventh grade and found that he had a natural ability, mostly learning to play by ear and never having any lessons. He is full of wisdom and grand insights .. Enjoy ..

He ended up relocating to New York City in 2012 to pursue a master’s degree in Jazz Studies at New York University and now this latest release is his fourth album as a bandleader .. he’s got a great story ..
