She writes a vital piece of jazz history about two Kansas City women, Carol Comer and Dianne Gregg, that got the support of jazz luminaries like Marian McPartland and Leonard Feather to launch the Kansas City Women’s Jazz Festival (WJF) .. s, it built plenty of steam and had seminal performances by Betty Carter, Mary Lou Williams, an unprecedented All-Star band of women, Toshiko Akiyoshi’s band, plus dozens of Kansas City musicians and volunteers – it’s an era and movement that needed to be brought to the forefront and Carolyn talks about it at length ..

KC Saxophonist & Educator Bobby Watson - 2017's Made in America

Along with the Curtis Lundy Trio featuring bassist Curtis Lundy, pianist Stephen Scott and drummer Lewis Nash – He tested out some material at the Smoke Jazz Club in New York that would become his newest album - 2017s Made in America – This album puts a needed spotlight on the Largely Unappreciated Black Pioneers – like Butterfly McQueen, Sammy Davis Jr., Wendell Pruitt, Major Taylor, and many others .. He spoke about making this album, what he’s been up to, getting back in the album circuit and releasing this material in a déjà vu performace at Smoke in NYC April 28 – 30 with a refined album and new audience ..

Pianist Michael Wolff and Drummer Mike Clark of the Wolff & Clark Expedition

and Drummer Mike Clark - Wolff and Clark anchor an all-star groove-heavy jazz-funk band that includes bassist James Genus, saxophonists Alex Foster, Lenny Pickett and Steve Wilson and a rotating cast of guest stars. Michael Wolff was a member of the bands of Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins, and singer Nancy Wilson, among many others – he was also the musical director of The Arsenio Hall Show – On the other hand, Mike Clark created his own innovative style of drumming as a member of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters Band, and has gone on to be a leader of the Headhunters himself. Together, these veterans are a funny and wise duo full of jazz bravado ..

He is now promoting 2017’s  East West Time Line CD and has plenty to say about his life and jazz ..
