Toronto Jazz Woodwinds, Vocals, Composer, Arranger & Educator Chelsea McBride

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview with Toronto Jazz Woodwinds, Vocals, Composer/Arranger & Educator Chelsea McBride .. She opened up about her social & politically minded 2019 CD Aftermath with her group ..  Chelsea McBride’s Social Night School .. She was born and raised in Vancouver B.C. and surrounded and fascinated by music. She started playing piano at the age of 3, and saxophone throughout elementary school. By the end of high school she had already performed in competitions at provincial and national levels. Sh has been named one of Canada’s top 35 jazz musicians under 35 by the CBC and was the inaugural recipient of the Toronto Arts Foundation’s Emerging Jazz Artist Award. He future is quite bright .. Cuban Pianist, Vocalist, Composer & Producer Roberto Fonseca

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview with Cuban pianist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and bandleader Roberto Fonseca .. He is Cuban-born and based and  has released nine solo albums, collaborated across genres, been nominated for a Grammy Award and toured the world several times over .. We caught up with him about his lastest album – the  2019 CD Yesun .. So, his father played the drums and his mother was a dancer .. That swayed him quite a bit .. his first professional gig was in a Beatles cover band – before taking up piano aged eight. He has been composing his own music since adolescence. He has been called an artist with prowess and ideas -  with a questing jazz sensibility and deep roots in the Afro-Cuban tradition .. German Saxophonist & Composer Gebhard Ullmann

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with German Saxophonist, Clarinetist, Flutist & Composer Gebhard Ullmann .. At the age of six, he started to play the recorder then the classical flute, and that has branched out to the saxophone .. He spent quality time studying with the great Herb Geller and Dave Liebman and at the University of Hamburg .. He also studied medicine, but ultimately picked music and he’s soared ..  Over time, he’s been all over the world and recorded more than 50 CDs as a leader or co-leader .. and for a while, he lived between New York City and Berlin. He was awarded the first “George Salisbury Memorial Scholarship” given at UMKC in 1985 and earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from UMKC in 1989. Kansas City Jazz Violinist Adam Galblum

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview with Kansas City Jazz Violinist Adam Galblum… He has a great story about his 2015 CD Down to the Wire Stringband Tribute to the Music of John Mayer  - These days, he is a staple on the thriving Kansas City Jazz scene and he grew up in Overland Park, KS - He was was a student of 1st generation Count Basie Band alum and legendary jazz violin pioneer Claude "Fiddler" Williams, in the 1990s – then went on to attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and lived in the Denver area from 2005-2014 touring nationally with bluegrass bands – These days you can catch him as the bandleader of Hot Club KC & Hot Club Trio, along with being a part of Splitting Atoms. Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview with Japanese-born Pianist, Composer and Leader of the Band Doggy Cats Tetsuro Hoshii .. His band has a new CD out called Daikon Pizza .. and it’s a good one .. He’s originally from Japan, came to the Berklee College of Music on Scholarship and now resides in New York City ..  The Doggy Cats is a six-piece brass started in New York City in 2015 and the band ranges widely in age from 20’s to 50’s and have collected many influences along the way—from New Orleans jazz to cartoons—resulting in an eclectic, non-classifiable new music of joy ..
