Brooklyn Jazz Pianist Julia Chen

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Brooklyn Jazz Pianist Julia Chen – She talked to us about her debut EP Silver Spoons and how she started her life off as a shy bespectacled child learning to rely on music to express her personality and connect with others in ways she couldn't with words. Raised in Brooklyn by parents from Poland and China, she grew up learning piano by ear from her mother who was a poet and mathematician. She would go on to get a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Piano Performance and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the Oberlin College and Conservatory in Ohio. And she made her way back to New York to form her rendessvous trio .. and so much more ..
