Author & Engineer Jaime Davila on the Forgotten 1593 Invention That Changed the World

Welcome to a new edition of the Famous Interviews with Joe Dimino series. On this episode, we talk with author and engineer Jaime Davila.

After earning an engineering degree, Jaime built a successful career in the creative industries—eventually leading operations at Mexico’s largest media company. But his passion for engineering, technology, and the history of innovation never faded.

That passion led him around the world exploring the origins of human progress—and ultimately inspired his book Forgotten: How One Man Unlocked the Modern World.

In this fascinating work, Jaime uncovers the story of Cornelis Corneliszoon, a little-known Dutch innovator from Uitgeest, north of Amsterdam. In 1593, Corneliszoon built and patented what is considered the world’s first true industrial machine—the mechanized sawmill—forever changing the course of human history.

What if this overlooked invention quietly helped shape the modern world as we know it?

In this interview, we dive into history, innovation, discovery, and the untold stories that redefine progress.

Enjoy this eye-opening conversation.
