Natalie Bates of Kansas City's 5-Star Jazz Band

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with drummer and Assistant Director of the Kansas City Based 5-Star Jazz Band. The 5 Star Jazz Band is a unique North Kansas City Cinderella-success story started in July 2008 by three talented students from North Kansas City High School. With no money or experience organizing an all-volunteer community enterprise, they set out to form a student-run jazz band comprised of musicians from middle and high schools .. and they have done just that. Over the course of our interview, Natalie talked about the bands history, what they want to give to audiences, how they feel about KC jazz and what the future may hold ..
