Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Legendary Jazz Historian, Reviewer and Author Scott Yanow .. Originally from NYC .. he grew up in LA, he got hooked I first heard Dixieland in the Danny Kaye movie The Five Pennies .. His first record was The Very Best Of Al Hirt & Pete Fountain .. and from there he moved on into the real stuff with Charlie Parker and John Coltrane .. He has written for Downbeat, Jazziz, the Los Angeles Jazz Scene, the Jazz Rag and Jazz Inside and been on over 750 liner notes, hundreds of press biographies and press releases – His name in words screams jazz and he has plenty of tales to tell .. and they were told ..
