Miz Elizabeth of The Hot Sardines

Jazz Legend Charles McPherson

Welcome to a very special edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with the legendary alto saxophonist Charles McPherson .. He’s originally from Joplin, Missouri, but he got baptized in the jazz while living in Detroit as a boy and getting some sage advice in jazz and life from the great Barry Harris, along with witnessing amazing cats like Miles Davis play live .. He spent 12 years with the great Charles Mingus and has played with a huge host of luminaries and jazz cats over the years .. He’s getting ready to release a new album called “The Journey” in February 2015 and the Journey through is rich and interesting life is what we discussed .. Charles possess an amazing arsenal of story, intelligence and warmth .. he’s a jewel in the annals of jazz history ..
