NYC Jazz Composer, Pianist, Actor, Dancer & Public Speaker Harold O’Neal

He talked about his majestic, huge sound on his new 2020 CD Once Upon A Time .. So, he was born in Tanzania and raised in Kansas City – He’s got some deep local roots ..  His great-grandfather was a jazz pianist and composer and his grandmother walked to school with Charlie Parker. He started playing piano at 4 on a miniature keyboard his father bought him .. He went to the grand Paseo Academy Of Fine And Performing of Arts and would go on to learn from and tour the world with Bobby Watson -  then on to Berklee College Of Music and all of his dreams via NYC way .. Pittsburgh-born Jazz Bassist Richie Goods

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Pittsburg-based Jazz Bassist Richie Goods ... He is the youngest person ever inducted into the Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Fame and jut happened to get an early start playing in church and clubs when he was going to the Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School. From there it was the Berklee College of Music- then New York City to study under jazz legends Ron Carter and Ray Brown. He spent a lot of time playing with  Mulgrew Miller and gigging with the likes of Louis Hayes and the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band, Milt Jackson, Russell Malone, Vincent Herring, the Manhattan Transfer and Walter Beasley to Brian McKnight, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera. Veteran Jazz Trumpeter, Composer, Educator & Record Producer John Vanore

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Trumpeter, Composer, Educator & Record Producer John Vanore .. He opened up about his latest CD inspired by some lost tapes called Primary Colors .. He was a blue collar kid from the Philadelphia suburbs that began playing the trumpet at age 7. He attended a summer program directed by Oliver Nelson at the Indiana University and that changed his life .. he would go on with lengthy studies with Dennis Sandole – John Coltrane’s mentor .. After college, he hit the ground booming after he joined the legendary Woody Herman band and would go on to play with the likes of Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Peggy Lee and many others. Boston-born, San Diego-based Jazz Saxophonist & Educator Christopher Hollyday

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Boston-born, San Diego-based Jazz Saxophonist Christopher Hollyday .. His 2nd CD after a 25 year break from recording is 2020’s Dialogue ..  So, he began performing publicly in 1983 in the Boston area at age thirteen and 5 years later he headlined a week at the historic Village Vanguard in New York City. He’s been on the road with the great Maynard Ferguson & toured with his own quartet visiting every Western European country, Brazil, Canada, and most of the United States.  These days he teaches saxophone at San Diego State University and in 2018 he returned to the recording studio to record his critically acclaimed comeback album Telepathy. So he started playing music at 3 and at 9 he taught himself how to play the Hammond B3 organ and would become the youngest artist to be endorsed by Hammond in its 80+ year history – At 10 he was invited to perform at Stevie Wonder’s induction into the Apollo Theater’s Hall of Fame and over the years he’s played with the likes of Christian McBride, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Regina Carter, Jason Moran, Jon Batiste .. Over the years, he has 4 DownBeat SM Jazz Soloist Awards, 2 Grammy Nominations, and was a semi-finalist in the 2008 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Guitarist & Composer Anthony Pirog of the Band The Messthetics

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with the Guitarist & Composer Anthony Pirog Jazz Group Messthetics  .. So, in 2019, the trio released its self-titled debut album and hit the road performing upwards of 200 shows across the US, Europe, and Asia. Their second full length isAnthropocosmic Nest and it came out in fall of 2019. It's the work of a more experienced band, whose dialog as a performing unit has necessarily focused and intensified. So we talked to this Washington DC about all of this .. He’s a loops magician – along with being a quiet but ubiquitous force on stages around his hometown. With fearsome chops and a keen ear for odd beauty, he has helped expand the possibilities of jazz, rock and experimentalism in a town long known for its straight-ahead tradition.
