NYC Jazz Bassist Alexander Claffy

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with New York City Jazz Bassist Alexander Claffy .. He’s originally from Philadelphia and learned quite a bit in the clubs there about how to play and what jazz is all about .. Over the years, he’s learned from the esteemed master Ron Carter and play and learn with cats like  Johnny O'Neal, Jimmy Cobb, Louis Hayes, and many others .. He’s got a new album coming out on February 26, 2016 simply called Claffy .. He’s an energetic jazz cat with plenty of tales about his heroes, what may be next, why he loves jazz and his unique sound ..

NYC Pianist and Composer Aruán Oritz

Over the course of an open conversation,  he discussed his journey to jazz .. it began in Cuba, picked up steam during time in Spain and finally in the United States he found his dream .. Over the years, he has written music for jazz ensembles, orchestras, dance companies, chamber groups, and feature films – He just released a new 2016 album to critical acclaim called Hidden Voices .. Over the course of our interview, she discussed her new 2016 album Precious Moments that was the result of a long, winding good road .. She has defeated Cancer and a rare blood disease – and it was all with an eye on releasing that big jazz album .. She grew up in the Bronx listening to the best in jazz via her parents who were New York City educators and had a dream of becoming Sarah Vaughn .. Instead, she has become truly herself .. a great jazz singer  ..

NYC Jazz Saxophonist Noah Preminger

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with NYC Saxophonist Noah Preminger  .. Over the course of our interview, he enlightened us today’s jazz world and about his roots in music .. He just released a new album - Pivot: Live at the 55 Bar in 2015 and talked about how his  parents were music enthusiasts with a huge record collection that gave him a strong backbone in music .. Originally from Conecticut, he calls New York City his home and he’s done quite well there .. playing and learning from the likes of Cecil McBee, John McNeil, Fred Hersch and many others .. Since his first crucially acclaimed album Dry Bridge Road released just after his 21st birthday, he has been off and running forward with recordings, gigs, teaching and much more ..

NYC Jazz Vibraphonist Behn Gillece

Veteran Jazz Multi-Instrumentalist, Composer & Educator Vinny Golia

Over the course of our conversation,  he discussed his life as a visual artist in New York, how he got into music almost by accident, his gigs all over the world, a celebrated recording career and his current teaching post at Cal Arts. He also ventured the history of his 50 piece Vinny Golia Large Ensemble and how he has contributed original compositions and scores to Ballet and Modern Dance works, video, theatrical productions, and film .. Vinny is a creative force, to put it mildly .. and he has a brilliantly woven tale of creativity and jazz ..
