Veteran Jazz Drummer & Bandleader on the 2021 CD The Pugilist Bernie Dresel

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Drummer & Bandleader on the 2021 CD The Pugilist Bernie Dresel .. Our first interview was with Bernie back in 2017 when the world was a much different place .. We talked to him about this strange new COVID world and his new 2021 CD "The Pugilist" .. This CD was done on the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic spanning several months during 2021. This album was recorded without the band ever playing together at the same time. Instead, each of the 17 musicians recorded their particular parts, including improvised solos, separately in their own home studio setting. The construction of this album and the survival of jazz has been remarkable .. and we discuss that and more .. Enjoy…

Bandleader Heidi Phillips of the Legendary Kansas City Indie Rock Band Frogpond

This Kansas City institution was active from 1993 to 2000 and they are gearing up for their first full album release in 20 years .. The band is rewriting a story that seemingly ended long ago. It all began as an unadorned rock project between then-college student Heidi Phillips and a handful of novice musician friends catapulted into an all-too-brief staple of ‘90s alt and indie rock. They won over the audiences of Kansas City and represent a much needed sound and presence of familiarity needed as the world recovers from COVID and live music begins in earnest ..  Enjoy their tale ..
