NYC Jazz/Americana Duo of Sweet Megg & Ricky Alexander

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with NYC Jazz/Americana Duo of Sweet Megg & Ricky Alexander .. They have a new single out called “My Honey’s Lovin Arms” from their debut album, I’m in Love Again coming out on June 11, 2021 on Turtle Bay Records .. These two come from very diverse backgrounds & they started performing together in New York City in 2014. Sweet Megg is a New York City bred vocalist who performs a range of material steeped in the American traditions of jazz and blues. She splits her time between Nashville and Brooklyn. Ricky began exploring the clarinet & fine tuning his primary instrument, the saxophone. He has performed at The Kennedy Center and many other prestigious and historic venues .. Veteran New York Jazz Saxophonist & Composer Vinnie Riccitelli

We caught up with this well-travelled 94 year old musician to talk about a great many things .. like his newest 2021 CD For the Record .. He has been called one of the best-kept secrets in Jazz. Born in 1926 in Yonkers, New York, he began playing alto saxophone at the age of 11 and never stopped. 1956 was a big year for him. He both married the love of his life, his loving wife of 60 years, Jean Krupa, and wrote, arranged, and recorded his first album, entitled UniqueJazz, The Westchester Workshop. Subsequently, he would not re-record his own compositions for nearly sixty years .. Enjoy his story …

Spokane-based Jazz Saxophonist, Composer & Educator David Larsen

It is an album that is the result of years of research into the music of Gerry Mulligan after pouring through hundreds of scores, transcribing many solos, and interviewing a number of players .. Over the years, he has worked and learned from the likes of Ken Peplowski, Francisco Torres and the internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Halie Loren.
