Veteran Jazz Vibraphonist Chuck Redd

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Vibraphonist Chuck Redd .. He opened up about his latest 2019 CD Groove City with a stellar group of musicians, playing a variety of deep grooves ranging from hard swinging to bossa nova and the blues. He started recording and touring the globe when he joined the Charlie Byrd Trio at the age of 21. He also performed in a concert with the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet in Africa for the Namibian Independence Celebration, a recital at the White House with the Barney Kessel Trio, four concerts at Carnegie Hall with the Mel Torme Quintet and an appearance on The Tonight Show. He has had 25 European tours and six tours of Japan, and this award winning cat is busier than ever and full of stories ..

Jazz Singer Ashley Pezzotti

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Jazz Singer Ashley Pezzotti .. She opened up about her 2019 CD We Have Only Just Begun .. Born in Queens, New York, she discovered her love for music when her Dominican father would sing her classic Spanish songs to sleep. It became apparent that this fascination of music would continue to grow exponentially over time, and at the young age of 4 years old Ashley began her musical journey by taking classical voice lessons.  That continued to study music throughout high school and attended Miami Arts Charter School, a visual and performing arts charter school. Capturing the heart of audiences with her extensive repertoire in traditional jazz and bebop, Ashley creates an atmosphere of excitement that will transport you to another place and time.

Canadian Jazz Vocalist Karin Plato

This Vancouver vocalist is one of Canada's best-known jazz singers – and a Juno award nominee, Western Canadian Music Award nominee, and multiple National Jazz Award nominee .. She started her life in music on the prairies. And around 1996 she got the “jazz bug” and hasn’t looked back. Karin has been able to study with some of the world’s great jazz vocalists including Sheila Jordan, Jay Clayton, Kurt Elling and Nancy King.  She has appeared at concerts and festivals across Canada and the USA, working as a composer, arranger, music educator and occasionally as a concert producer  ..

Legendary Jazz Drummer Alvin Queen

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Legendary Jazz Drummer Alvin Queen… From his home base in Switzerland, he opened up about this 2019 CD Op - a Tribute to Oscar Peterson and talked about his experiences with the genius jazz pianist .. So, he was born in the Bronx, raised in Mt. Vernon and as a kid .. he loved playing ball .. and one of those kids on the infamous Fourth Street playground was Academy Award winner Denzel Washington – in fact, his father, Elder D. Washington Sr., who was pastor of the First Church of God In Christ and was big in Alvin’s life .. He was introduced to jazz at an early age and was groomed as a prodigy on the kit and had a lot of experience growing up .. In 1963 he had “big night” in his early jazz experience when John Coltrane was performing at Birdland, and Alvin happened to be on hand for the recording of the now-famous “Live At Birdland” album, featuring the tune Afro Blue. Elvin Jones sat Alvin at the front table – “under the drums” – next to Elvin’s wife. And he got to get behind the drums to perform .. he talked about this and so much more ..

Keyboardist Joel Visentin of the Canadian Jazz Group JV’s Boogaloo Squad

Originally a pianist - the organ first grabbed him while he was studying music at Humber College.  He had the immense fortune to see the great Doug Riley in concert at the Humber auditorium and ever since he has been striving to stand on the shoulders of Doug and other soul/jazz giants like George Benson, Jimmy Smith, Grant Green, and Jack MacDuff.  The heart of this band is getting good music into the world .

At 21, he performed at Italy’s renowned Umbria Jazz Festival, released a critically acclaimed debut album and set out on an extensive tour of Europe. Over the years, he has toured as a leader in major clubs and jazz festivals in Europe, Japan, South America, Asia and the US and has received high praise for his performances.

13-Year Old Jazz Piano Prodigy Brandon Goldberg

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Miami-based 13- Year Old Jazz Piano Prodigy Brandon Goldberg.. He just released his debut album, Let's Play!, is a refined gift, sculpted by years in the woodshed, inspired by pianists recognized by one name, Monk, McCoy, Chick, Bud and others featuring veteran players Ben Wolfe, Donald Edwards and special guest Marcus Strickland. He began to play piano by ear when he was three playing the songs he was learning in pre-school on his family’s piano at home .. Already he  has appeared on the Harry Connick Jr. Show, both seasons of NBC’s Little Big Shots and the Steve Harvey Show. The future is wide open .. and we talk about that ..
