Italian Jazz Pianist & Composer Roberto Magris

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with International Jazz Pianist Roberto Magris .. He opened up about his newest 2018 CD World Gardens featuring Kansas City jazz talent like  Dominique Sanders and Brian Steever .. He opened up about growing up in Italy and his ties to Kansas City – working with JMood Records and being honored by the City Council of Kansas City for his contribution to jazz music and performance at the American Jazz Museum .. Over his career, he has 31 recordings to his credit and has toured in over 42 different countries .. He’s a gem from his home in Europe and called Kansas City his other home .. Veteran NYC Jazz Organist Pat Bianchi

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Organist Pat Bianchi .. He took some time from his busy jazz life to talk about his latest 2018 CD In the Moment .. and reflect on a December 8, 2018 Kansas City Show with Vibes cat Joe Locke and Drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith at the Blue Room .. This Two-time grammy nominated cat comes from a musically gifted family – He started playing organ at the age of 7 after he got one as a Christmas gift. His grandfathers (Pat Bianchi – Saxophone and Richard Zona – Trumpet) along with his father (Nick Bianchi – Drums) all working musicians, provided a great deal of support and guidance early in his musical development that led to him eventually performing with dance bands around his hometown of Rochester, NY. His hero  Joey DeFrancesco was the ultimate reason he would leave the piano behind for the Hammond B3 – and he’s got some great stories ..

San Francisco-based Veteran Jazz Pianist and Radio Host Dick Conte

He opened up about his latest 2018 CD Blue in Green – A tribute to Bill Evans .. He talked about how he arrived in San Francisco in 1961 from his native Connecticut and has since become an integral part of the Bay Area jazz scene with his encyclopedic knowledge of jazz,  formidable jazz radio presence (from the fabled KJAZ days to present-day KCSM and KKSF),  and his piano performances at clubs, festivals and private venues.  Along with a defined prowess as a musician, he’s a three-time nominee for Gavin Magazine’s Jazz Broadcaster of the Year ..

Veteran Swiss Jazz Drummer Fredy Studer

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Swiss Jazz Drummer Fredy Studer .. He talked about his latest solo work of material called Now’s The Time .. He was born in Lucerne (Switzerland) – His current home and where Neon Jazz caught up with him .. He began playing the drums at the age of 16, after four years of "Basel drumming". He has a highly diverse spectrum of music styles, encompassing march and dance music, as well as beat, folk, rock, psychedelic, blues, jazz rock, rhythm 'n blues and be-bop, free jazz, free funk and improvisation. His music performances since the early seventies have been as eclectic as his freelance activities with musicians, ranging from "A", as in John Abercrombie, to "Z", as in John Zorn.

Toronto Jazz Vocalist Sam Boverman

Veteran Kansas City Jazz Trumpeter Jay Sollenberger

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Trumpeter Jay Sollenberger  .. This local jazz stalwart is always busy with Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, The Vine Street Rumble and other outfits .. He grew up in McPherson, Kansas and attended Wichita State University and North Texas State University - While at North Texas in 1970, he played in the internationally famous One O'Clock Lab Band. That led to work with rock group Chase .. but, since high school, Jay had an ambition to play with the Stan Kenton Orchestra.  Eight years later that goal was achieved and in November of 1974 Jay became a member of the Kenton organization playing second trumpet .. That led to him also joining the the Woody Herman Orchestra playing lead trumpet.  He’s got great KC tales, insights and stories ..

Sam is the son of a classical musician right outta Topeka, Kansas who fell in love with jazz listening to the radio at age 13 ..  He moved to Kansas City in 2001 to study at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and has been  fixture on the KC jazz scene every since ..

Austrian Jazz Saxophonist, Singer and Composer Muriel Grossman

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Austrian alto, soprano, tenor saxophonist, singer and composer Muriel Grossmann  - She was born in Paris and grew up in Vienna, where she initiated classical studies of flute at the age of five until twenty-one, when she switched to alto and soprano saxophone .. Over the years, she has played and toured with various rhythm & blues, funk, world music and jazz groups and artists .. In 2002 she moved to Barcelona where she started to lead her own bands for recordings and concerts .. These days she is a resident in Ibiza in the middle of very fruitful recording and performing period – we talked to her about her latest 2017 CD Momentum .. and so much more ..

This local busy musician was born in Goldsboro, NC and would relocate Kansas City at 10 - He picked up the sax that same year when he was enrolled in Longfellow Academy joined his first jazz program through the American Jazz Museum. After being accepted into Berklee College of Music he decided not to go and started his career playing music in bands of every genre around Kansas City. New York City Jazz Pianist Aaron Goldberg

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Pianist Aaron Goldberg .. He spoke openly about his latest 2018 CD At the Edge of the World .. He began taking piano lessons at 7, and started playing jazz when he was 14. He moved to New York City at 17 to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and devoted his off-hours to practicing the piano and performing in New York clubs. As his career as a pianist continued to gain momentum, he decided to pursue a long-held ambition to continue exploring themes from his senior thesis and obtain a master's degree in philosophy. So, jazz has a way of summoning that kind of spirit from musicians, and he knows exactly how to capture it, surrounding himself with kindred spirits in pursuit of the highest expression. NYC Jazz Clarinetist & Saxophonist Ken Thomson

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Brooklyn-based clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer Ken Thomson .. He put together a new band for his latest project called Sextet on New Focus Recordings' .. He is a staple within NYC’s contemporary music and jazz communities and is widely regarded for his ability to blend a rich variety of influences and styles into his own musical language while maintaining a voice unmistakably his own. Guided by a desire to create music in which composition and improvisation are equally important and codependent, this project is the latest in a series of recordings the composer has made unifying these traditions.
