Veteran Jazz Pianist, Composer & Educator Karl Berger

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Musician Karl Berger .. He grew up in Heidelberg, Germany and started to play piano at 10 and worked in his teens at a club  .. He learned modern jazz from visiting American musicians like Don Ellis and Leo Wright. During the 1960s, he started playing vibraphone and received a doctoral degree in musicology and worked as a member of Don Cherry's band in Paris. He would end up in New York City and with Ornette Coleman created the Creative Music Studio .. He’s a six time winner of the Downbeat Critics Poll as a jazz soloist and quite a Professor ..
