Author & Long-Distance Hiker Diane Gansauer on Life Stories & the Continental Divide Trail

Welcome to a new edition of the Famous Interviews with Joe Dimino series. On this episode, we talk with Author, Life Story Professional, and Long-Distance Hiker Diane Gansauer. From her base in Colorado, Diane shares the extraordinary story of how, at the age of sixty-one, she set out to hike the entire Continental Divide Trail—a 3,100-mile journey from Mexico to Canada.

Over seven years, Diane traversed rugged mountains, deep forests, and winding rivers—all while continuing her calling: officiating celebrations of life and honoring over 400 life stories through memorials and ceremonies. Her book, The Waypoints, beautifully weaves the wisdom gained on the trail with the emotional depth of the lives she commemorated, likening these moments to stacked stones marking a path.

This conversation explores themes of grief, resilience, aging boldly, and the spiritual connection between nature and memory. It's an inspiring reminder that transformation is always possible—at any age.
