Syrian-born, Brooklyn-based Jazz Composer & Clarinetist Kinan Azmeh

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series. In this episode, we talk with Syrian-born, Brooklyn-based jazz composer & clarinetist Kinan Azmeh about his latest album, Live In Berlin, and his upcoming album release show on March 1, 2025, at Joe’s Pub in New York City.

This powerful project, recorded with his Arab-Jazz Quartet, is dedicated to the people of Syria. As his 14th album, created with his CityBand quartet, Live In Berlin captures the emotions of anger, frustration, sadness, and hope—a reflection of both personal and collective experiences in the face of atrocities. Conceived during the 2011 Syrian uprising, the album presents six deeply personal compositions influenced by his homeland.

We explore his journey, creative process, and the fusion of jazz and Arabic influences that define his sound.

Veteran Jazz Guitarist Bill Moio

He later attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music before embarking on a career spanning decades in the casino circuits of Las Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe. His latest album is a culmination of his experiences and passion for jazz, featuring a rich backstory that we uncover in this conversation.

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series. In this episode, we talk with seasoned English keyboardist and leader of Jazz Sabbath, Adam Wakeman, about his new 2024 album The 1968 Tapes, the history of Jazz Sabbath, and his remarkable journey in music.

Jazz Sabbath was at the forefront of the UK jazz movement in the late ‘60s, recording two albums in 1969 that were thought to be lost—until now. Adam, the son of rock legend Rick Wakeman (Yes), began playing classical piano at just eight years old and has since built an extraordinary career. He has spent the last 20 years performing with Black Sabbath and continues to work alongside Ozzy Osbourne.

From rock to jazz, his musical evolution, and an unexpected hiatus, we cover it all.
