Netherlands-based Jazz Bassist Joris Teepe

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Nethrelands-based Jazz Bassist, Composer & Educator Joris Teepe .. Arriving in New York in 1992 with just his bass and a suitcase, he took lessons with Ron Carter, quickly met many musicians and started to work a lot. A year later he recorded his first CD .. He talked about this and his new 2019 CD and Book called In the Spirit of Rashied Ali - The free jazz and avant-garde drummer best known for playing with John Coltrane in the last years of Coltrane's life .. He was a member of the Rashied Ali Quintet for 9 years – an experience that changed his vision on music. He has recorded 10+ albums as a leader and established himself as a composer, record producer, educator and bandleader.

Russian-born Jazz Pianist Yelena Eckemoff

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Russian-born Jazz Pianist Yelena Eckemoff ..  She talked about her newest 2019 CD Colors .. So, her parents noticed that she had musical talent when she started to play piano by ear at the age of four. At the age of seven Yelena was accepted into an elite Gnessins School for musically gifted children and in 1991, with her husband, Yelena emigrated to the United States. While assimilating and surviving in a new country and raising children, she had to put her musical career on hold. During these years Yelena experimented with synthesizer and MIDI sequencer in her little home studio .. That led to her first jazz album, COLD SUN, in 2009 .. She is full of wisdom and stories ..

Veteran Jazz Drummer Peter Kogan

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Veteran Jazz Drummer Peter Kogan  .. He opened up about his newest 2019 CD The Green Album .. His musical journey began at six on the violin, added piano at age eight and drums at age ten.  A year later he began serious study with Saul Goodman, timpanist of New York Philharmonic .. He would go on to a classical career with the Cleveland Orchestra .. then the Pittsburgh Symphony .. then spent six years in New York City as a drum set player and composer backing up Blues legends .. UK Jazz Saxophonist & Composer Karen Sharp

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with UK Jazz Saxophonist & Composer Karen Sharp .. She was in Suffolk in the UK and developed a love of music from an early age – that would lead to her taking  up the piano and clarinet and then she would start writing music and working as an accompanist for local music groups.  After graduating in composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, she discovered a love of jazz and was inspired to play the tenor sax by two giants - Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins .. After moving to London in 2000, her career took off when she was asked to join Humphrey Lyttelton's band with whom she toured the UK and Europe for four years. This gave her a great deal of exposure and led to many great things .. she talks about all of this and her latest 2018 CD The Sun, The Moon and You ..

Along with performing, he’s established himself as an innovative composer through his work for numerous small ensembles and has written pieces for string quartet, solo piano and saxophone quartet ..
