Born in New York City, Stuart began his spiritual quest at the age of 16, searching for a teacher who could help direct his creative energy toward a meaningful spiritual path. He studied literature, philosophy, and acting, wrote visionary poetry, and eventually embarked on a bohemian journey through Europe and Africa before returning to the United States.
That return would change everything. Stuart eventually met Swami Rudrananda, known as Rudi, in New York City and became his disciple. Rudi became a profound influence on Stuart's life and spiritual development, introducing him to a powerful form of Kundalini Yoga and meditation. Stuart studied with Rudi for years and ultimately became a teacher in his lineage.
Today, Stuart has spent more than five decades teaching meditation and inner work, with students around the world. He offers online meditation classes, lectures, and retreats, sharing teachings focused on consciousness, inner balance, spiritual energy, the chakra system, and bringing meditation into everyday life.
Stuart is also an accomplished author whose books explore meditation, spirituality, personal transformation, and the development of an inner life. His recent work includes Rudra Meditation: Transforming Life's Tensions Into Joy and Love, which combines memoir and meditation instruction drawn from his decades of experience.
In this wide-ranging conversation, we explore spiritual awakening, Kundalini Yoga, meditation, finding a teacher, creativity, consciousness, inner peace, Rudi's influence, and Stuart's remarkable journey across more than 50 years of spiritual practice.
