Jazz Sax & Composer Dave Rempis

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Jazz Saxophonist Dave Rempis  .. He was born in Wellesley, Massachusetts and began his music journey at 8 inspired by a family friend who played clarinet in local Greek bands – and picked up the saxophone – At 22 he was asked to replace veteran saxophonist Mars Williams in the well-known Chicago jazz outfit The Vandermark Five and things took off .. Along with the concerts and recordings, he’s one of the main organizers of the indie-rock Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago’s Union Park – He’s a very cool and centered cat ..

Jazz Saxophonist Ron Aprea

He grew up in Astoria, NY - got his own alto saxophone at age 16 and started taking lessons in a studio across the street from Radio City Music Hall – being so close to New York he got the best education in the world going to the famed Birdland seeing the likes of Count Basie and Blakey’s Jazz Messengers – His latest 2015 CD Pays Tribute to John Lennon and the Beatles – and it’s an ode to spending some time in the studio years ago with his friend John Lennon .. He’s jammed with legends like Woody Herman, Tito Puente, Billy May, Skitch Henderson and Lionel Hampton over the years and has the stories to back it up ..

Jazz Guitarist & Composer Rale Micic

Jazz Pianist & Composer Marc Copland

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Jazz Pianist & Composer Marc Copland  ..  He spent his childhood in Philadelphia – he took piano lessons at age seven, stopped at ten when his public school offered the option of saxophone – In the  early 1960s as a saxophonist learning from earning and playing with Michael Brecker – in 1966 he moved to New York City – then went on to the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area as a jazz pianist and back to his home of New York in the mid-1980s – the keys are his home and he’s got so many tales to share ..

Veteran Jazz Saxophonist Joe McPhee

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Jazz Multi-Instrumentalist Joe McPhee  .. He was born in Miami, Florida and grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York – His 1st  recording came in 1967, when he appeared on the Clifford Thornton – at the age of 32 he taught himself the saxophone after eperiencing the music of John Coltrane – Since the late 1960’s he’s well known for his free jazz work all the way up until the present day ..
