Jazz Bassist & Bandleader of The Heartland Trio Hannah Marks
Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Jazz Bassist & Band Leader Hannah Marks of the Heartland Trio .. They are swinging through Kansas City on the front end of their tour at the MOD Gallery on May 9, 2019 .. The band was formed by Hanna in 2017 and also includes Barclay Moffitt on tenor saxophone, and Rocky Martin on drums. Alongside their original compositions, Heartland Trio uses jazz standards, rock songs, and traditional folk tunes as vehicles for expression – and over all their sound reflects their desire to create with a gritty and spontaneous garage band mentality while exploring beyond the boundaries of the traditional roles of their instruments in a jazz setting. She also discussed their debut 2018 album simply called Year One.
