Jazz Leader and Trumpeter of the River Cow Orchestra E.E. Pointer

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Kansas City-based Jazz Trumpeter and Bandleader E.E. Pointer of the River Cow Orchestra .. We caught up with the leader of this cutting edge Kansas City jazz group to talk about some of their latest recordings .. like 2019’s CD The Intergalactic Love Men and he opens up about others, as well .. along with recent activity for this band of 12 musicians led by E.E. and featuring Greg Field (percussion, poetry), Michael LaGrega (violin, synthesizer), Brent Bowman (keyboard, alto sax), Ryan Jones (bass), Issaku Yamaashi (guitar), Grant Harse (bass), George Boje (guitar), Kristina Ning (bass), Scott Bosworth (drums), Connor Bowman (flute), Joe Shields (drums) .. And they are the essence of improv .. one take and that’s it .. if you heard it, remember it because it may not happen again .. always honing collective improvisation, similar to the New Orleans Jazz parades, paying attention to how each band member interacts with the group as a whole. Essentially celebrating music of the moment.
