Welcome to a new edition of the Famous Interviews with Joe Dimino series .. On this episode, we talk with Best-Selling Author Liz Sjaastad, whose powerful memoir You're Too Young to Understand shares her story of growing up with, and later caring for, her parents. Her father was a quiet Russian immigrant and intellectual who struggled with alcohol, while her mother—an elegant, proper beauty—lived with the unacknowledged brain illness of schizophrenia.
Liz’s journey has gone far beyond the book. She is an advocate for mental health awareness, has served on the board of Touchstone Mental Health, and is currently Vice President of her local NAMI affiliate. Through her story, she works to reduce stigma, increase understanding, and inspire support for those affected by schizophrenia. From her base in Minnesota, Liz shares her moving life story and mission. Enjoy.
