Houston-based Jazz Singer Ermelinda Cuellar

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Houston-based Jazz Singer Ermelinda Cuellar .. Her new 2022 CD What A Difference A Day Made has a very personal and heartbreaking connection to COVID. With venues closed, Cuellar wanted to create work for her underemployed bandmates. They began recording in December 2020. Her percussionist Anibal Ambert came to the recording session with what he thought was a cold after a negative Covid test. A few days later, he was re-tested and found to have Covid. His condition worsened rapidly, and five days later, he died. She opened up about the very personal nature of this album, her life in music, the influence of her Peruvian parents, the future and more .. Enjoy ..
