Welcome to a new edition of the Famous Interviews with Joe Dimino series. On this episode, we talk with acclaimed filmmaker, director, and producer Vaishali Sinha about her eye-opening documentary Give It a Shot, which follows the global race to develop a reversible male contraceptive that could reshape family planning and change lives around the world.
Why has it taken so long for men to share the responsibility of contraception? That's the timely and urgent question at the heart of this compelling film. Blending humor, emotion, and scientific discovery, Give It a Shot follows decades of research into male birth control, centering on 83-year-old Indian researcher Dr. Sujoy Guha and a development team based in the United States.
In our conversation, we explore the documentary's fascinating scientific journey, the challenges of bringing a new contraceptive option to market, and the broader questions surrounding gender, reproductive responsibility, and the future of family planning. We also discuss Vaishali's filmmaking career, her award-winning work, and her commitment to creating films that encourage audiences to look more closely at the world around them.
It's an illuminating conversation about science, society, persistence, and the possibility of changing how the world approaches contraception.
